Dimensional sign with reclaimed chestnut, rusted steel and patina copper

The-Works-Bakery

Over the years we have built quite a few signs for what was originally called Bagel Works now called "The Works". In an older post I detailed a store front design we built in Brattleboro VT for them that featured a standing seam copper awning and a dimensional sign made with re-purposed materials. This was the first of a new design and for that store they wanted no color in the sign. Just off white and the natural colors of the materials. I had to bite my tongue and finish it as requested but I knew color would make this design come alive. Along comes another new store for The Works when they bought an existing bagel shop in Durham NH called the Bagelry. While re-vamping the store to make it, The Works, new signage was needed. This time around I lobbied hard for adding color and after much discussion got my way. Here are a couple of shots of the completed signs installed. They are built with wood framing, clad with copper and sheathed with recycled chestnut. The steel panel is on an 8" arc and all the lettering and graphics are carved HDU. We finished up the installation and by the time we got back to the shop, (about 2 hours away) we already had an inquiry from a prospective customer that had seen the sign and wanted something like it...gradifying!
